Masi Mazzano Amarone 2001

Masi Mazzano Amarone 2001

Regular price $174.98

The estate's 2001 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Mazzano is a big, dense wine. This expansive, generous red possesses beautiful layers of dark plums, prunes, leather, coffee beans and grilled herbs with superb density and fine overall balance. Although the style is similar to that of the Campolongo di Torbe, the Mazzano shows an additional level of depth and vibrancy. This is an exceptional wine. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019.92 points from Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate94 points from James SucklingGRAPES: 75% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 5% Molinara.Winery Notes: HARVEST NOTEFlowering and fruit set progressed under excellent conditions. After a long summer drought, rains at end of August helped vines recover. Harvest of red grapes began after mid-September, with quantities 10-15% lower than previous years. Occasional rain interrupted the harvest, but the fruit was very healthy with good sugar levels, and the appassimento process was very successful.TASTING NOTEShows bold, elegant and austere aromas of violets, plums, incense, vanilla, candied fruit and cocoa. Palate flavors of plums, bitter and sweet cherries, candied fruit and hazelnut chocolate are full-bodied, soft and dry, before a long finish.FOOD PAIRINGPairs well with red meats, game, quail, full-flavored dishes and strong cheeses like parmesan and pecorino. Also a great after-dinner wine.
