The Nardi family's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Manachiara opens to rich saturation and concentration followed by a full bouquet of generous spice and dark fruit. Dark plum, prune, blackberry and cassis all emerge on the nose to be followed quickly by spice, cola, tar and licorice. This is an intense Brunello to the nth degree. Sweet oak tannins wrap thickly over the palate and remind you that the wine needs a few more years of bottle aging.93 points from Robert Parker, The Wine AdvocateWinery Notes:The vines for this cru or single-vineyard Brunello are more than 45 years old. Low yields and strict viticultural practices allowed the Sangiovese Grosso grape to reach perfect ripeness, and Tenute Silvio Nardi carefully selected the finest grapes during a manual harvest in the first half of October. After a complete destemming, the must underwent fermentation and maceration for at least 26 days at a controlled temperature. The wine then spent 18 months maturing in French (Allier) oak barriques, followed by 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. Subsequent aging in bottles lasted at least 24 months. This deep ruby-red wine has clean, intense and complex aromas of ripe fruit, with spice and floral notes. Mellow flavors become assertive, supported by fresh acidity. A solid structure is enhanced by supple, sweet and smooth tannins, and very good length. An excellent wine to age.FOOD PAIRINGPair with roasted lamb and aged cheeses.
